MiraCosta's Community Services Program offers online, on-site business training
Time is money, and many employees and supervisors don't have the time to sign up for classes to get the needed skills training, especially if taking a workshop or course requires driving time to a training center.
But through online classes and on-site classes offered by MiraCosta College's fee-based Community Services Program, learning what you need to know has just gotten a whole lot easier. Online courses offer students the luxury of taking classes at their convenience, often from the comfort of a home or work computer. Community Services' ever expanding online course offerings now include a long list of career training certificate programs under the general headings of health care, business, computer networking, construction technology, even video game design and development. The newest online certificate programs include an electronics technician certificate, electromechanical technician certificate, and a programmable logic controller technician certificate offered in partnership with George Brown College. Online classes are offered in a variety of entrepreneurial topics, career development, writing, Spanish, French, and a wide array of computer classes.
And for "in-person" classes right in the office, MiraCosta's Community Services instructors bring the business training to you: days, evenings or weekends. Clients have included supervisors and staff from Toyota Carlsbad, Skin Medica, Carlsbad Unified School District, Taylor Made, Cabrillo Power Operations and many others. Prices are affordable and flexibility is the operative word.
"On-site business training is so much more convenient for employees who want to take classes," Community Services Director Leon Levy says. "It's an important reason companies do business with us."
On-site training can be customized to meet specific needs, and could include supervisory skills, computer technology, workplace skills such as business reading, writing, math, you name it. Customized business training can also be scheduled on campus, if companies prefer that. "We receive ongoing training in English as a second language and computer skills from MiraCosta and our employees have made great progress," says Sue Peirce, human resources manager of Toyota Carlsbad. "We plan to continue working with MiraCosta in the future." Extensive customer service training is also available through Community Services.
One of most talked-about new training programs in California right now is Prevention of Sexual Harassment. A new law that went into effect in January 2005 requires that employers with 50 or more employees provide a minimum two hours of training on this topic to all supervisory personnel. MiraCosta's Community Services is helping local businesses comply with this new law by providing this training.
