Tucked away on a corner in the Carlsbad Village sits an intimate theatre where the audience becomes immersed each season in dynamic plays fueled by powerful actors.
The term lucky only begins to describe how blessed we all are to have this award-winning professional theatre right in our own backyards. There is no need to travel to Los Angeles or other metropolitan cities to find such a high caliber of artists, actors and directors.
Founded by graduates of the Actors Studio Drama School, New Village Arts is known for its outstanding ensemble work and intensely thrilling productions. NVA will once again bring audience members to their feet with the return this month of “Sailor's Song.”
The multiple award-winning production by John Patrick Shanley runs through Aug. 24. Directed by Kristianne Kurner, this extravagant seaside story is decorated with dance.
The love story brings us a cynical man and a true believer who battle over beautiful women and the power of love. It is one of the theatre's most requested repeat performances.
“You'll laugh, you'll cry, and you'll never forget it,” according to San Diego Magazine.
Tickets are $20 for groups of six or more, $22 for seniors, students and active military and $26 for everyone else.
Also this month, NVA will present “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged).” The summer fling with Shakespeare begins Aug. 10 and concludes Aug. 31.
Within the span of the evening, every single Shakespeare play is covered, and a nod is given to the sonnets. Directed by Harvard graduate Rob Salas, the production stars Artistic Associate Joshua Everett Johnson, Tim Parker and Ensemble Member Adam Brick.
General admission tickets for this play are all pay-what-you-can. Reservations are recommended
New Village Arts is located at 2787 State St., Ste. B. For more information or to make a reservation, call (760) 433-3245 or visit www.newvillagearts.org.
