'Tis the season to be giving
The monthly Sundowners, held on the third Wednesday of each month, are one of the Chamber's most popular networking events.
There's usually hors d'oeuvres and refreshments, opportunities to socialize and they give you a chance to unwind after a day at the office by meeting people who are just as passionate about their careers as you are.
It's a great formula, but for the upcoming Sundowner (on Nov. 16) we're mixing things up a little to help get us into that holiday spirit by shopping and helping the less fortunate. Make a donation to get in, and once inside, shop for gifts from Chamber members. 'Tis the season to be giving the gift that keeps on giving!
For this Sundowner, which will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the Sheraton Carlsbad Resort & Spa, 5480 Grand Pacific Drive, instead of paying for admission at the door with cash, we'll be collecting blankets, unwrapped toys and clothing, and gift cards. All must have values of more than $10. With gift cards, please include the receipt. If you don't have a gift, you can also pay a $10 admission (cash only).
The donated products and a portion of the proceeds will benefit the Carlsbad Christmas Bureau Adopt-A-Family Project, which has provided food and gifts for needy Carlsbad families since 1970. Over the years, thousands of families have been adopted by the all-volunteer, nonprofit organization.
The goal of the Carlsbad Christmas Bureau Adopt-A-Family Project is for businesses, organizations and individuals to adopt needy families within Carlsbad and provide gifts and food to help them celebrate the holidays.
"We're very fortunate here in Carlsbad. We have great weather, and a very supportive community, but we have some people that are struggling, and we're striving to help those less fortunate," said Phil Urbina, president of the Christmas Bureau (and a former chairman of the Chamber).
This year, about 200 Christmas Bureau volunteers will come together to help 450 local families in need (for information on how you can help read the info box above or visit www.christmasbureau.org).
If you are a Chamber member who offers products to consumers (not services), you can join the roster of businesses who will have tabletop sales exhibits at the November Sundowner for $49. The availability of table tops is limited, so act now to secure your spot.

• Through donations and food drives by local schools, businesses and organizations (including the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce) that host drop off boxes.
