The year is winding down and thoughts are of turkey and Christmas. For me, it is about resolve and thoughts of the year 2008. As the year ends in the next few weeks, you, too, should begin thinking about your personal goals.
First of all, let's all be thankful that the fires that started in October are over and out, and that we didn't lose more citizens in the process. Our first responders were magnificent. Our fellow citizens have been the best they can be with their volunteer efforts and cash donations. This will be a very thankful holiday. Moving on to 2008 is our next priority.
Here are some thoughts to help you take positive steps toward 2008:
• Understand that in difficult situations, there are always choices.
• Have the courage to move away from people who think negatively and who want to pull down your ideas.
• Do not let your fears become reality.
• Build up your courage one step at a time. Don't try to do everything at once.
• Go back to the core values that have always been your beliefs.
• Indulge in quiet confidence. Don't get cocky and confuse the two.
• Savor the struggle. Courage doesn't come easily.
• Be original. Think out of the box and don't fear being the first to do something.
Aristotle once said, “Courage is the first of human qualities, because it is the quality which guarantees the others.”
The holiday season is the prime time to act with care and giving for others. Take a look around your company and neighborhood, and see if you can't find at least two organizations or families that you could share your values with. A cash donation or gift will do the recipients a world of good, but to you it will be a wonderful end to a thankful year.
You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
