Pacific Ridge School (PRS), a new independent school located in coastal North County San Diego, and its board of trustees has signed a purchase/sale agreement to acquire a 7.3-acre lot that is already zoned for a private school as part of the Bressi Ranch Master Planned Community in Carlsbad. Construction of the campus is expected to be completed in the summer of 2007. The seller is the Episcopal Diocese of San Diego (EDSD). Terms are confidential.

"PRS will begin accepting applications this fall for students entering 7th and 9th grades in September 2007," said Duff Sanderson, Pacific Ridge School Board chair and chair of the Facilities Committee that has worked to identify and secure the site. "Having already recruited a renowned educator to serve as the head of the school and having raised significant funding, securing this campus is the next critical step in our four-year journey to develop a new independent school that will greatly benefit the communities of North County."

Carlsbad-based Hofman Planning, a land-use planning firm, has been working with PRS for the past two years to evaluate sites and has already submitted the necessary Conditional Use Permit application for entitlement processing with the City of Carlsbad. The school will be completing the final programming and design of the site with the first phase build-out occurring in spring of 2007.

Pacific Ridge School will be headed by Dr. Eileen Mullady, one of the leading educators in the U.S. and former head of school for Horace Mann, a highly acclaimed independent school located in New York City.

"Pacific Ridge School will offer students a fully integrated curriculum that emphasizes links between all academic disciplines?including history, literature, science, mathematics, language and the arts?to promote deep understanding of issues and subject matter. Additionally, ethical questions will weave together what students learn in each trimester," said Mullady. "Education, at its best, is life-changing. And that's what we want to offer to students of North County."

Pacific Ridge School is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS), a membership organization representing nearly 1,200 independent schools and associations in the U.S. and abroad. The school has already raised over $7.5 million toward its goal of $12 million. For more information on Pacific Ridge School visit www.pacificridge.com or call (877) 843-4424.
