Moms and dads can enjoy their morning coffee while their little ones enjoy free story time and coloring activities with local artist and former elementary school teacher danielle Couch.
Couch is the owner of Painted Pals, which offers custom murals for children. She is hosting Story Time and Art Experience for Kids from 10 to 11 a.m. every other Monday at Peet's Coffee & Tea, 2641 Gateway Road, Carlsbad.
The free event will take place Oct. 12, Oct. 26, Nov. 9, Nov. 23 and Dec. 7. A tent sponsored by My Life Tees keeps the youngsters cool by providing shade during the activities.
During story time, children can color free pictures or T-shirts with fun designs that are $10. Washable markers are available for purchase for children who want to color their T-shirts again and again.
Couch said she created this event because she noticed each independent mom-owned coffee shop geared especially for parents and their children had a similar story behind it. She said the shops, which offer kid-oriented events, were created because the owners felt uncomfortable taking their kids to the regular adult places.
“I noticed there wasn't anything like that here in North County for moms and dads, so I decided to create one,” Couch said. “We started in June and it has been going strong. The parents and kids love it. There is lots of social interaction for both and beautiful art is made by all.”
