The economy's impact on Carlsbad's financial state, the importance of a reliable source of water and the significance of becoming a charter city are just a few of the topics that will be addressed at the annual State of the City Luncheon.
Hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Four Seasons Resort Aviara, 7100 Four Seasons Point, Carlsbad. During the luncheon, attendees will watch an approximately 20-minute video featuring Mayor Bud Lewis, the City Council and city staff members.
“The State of the City gives people an overall conceptual idea of what is going on in the city … what happened in the past and how we're doing compared to other cities,” Lewis said.
The progress report will cover the city's budget, including revenue and expenses; staff changes, including new City Manager Lisa Hildabrand; Carlsbad's water portfolio and infrastructure, including roads and parks. It will include a review of the general plan, information about the community's vision for the Cannon Road agricultural lands and the status of projects like a training facility for emergency responders and the recently renovated senior center.
On-going initiatives, including the redevelopment of the Village and the Ponto Vision plan, also will be highlighted.
“This highly anticipated annual event is attended by prominent business leaders and government officials from throughout the region,” said Toni Padron, COO and executive vice president of the chamber. “Attendees who live and work in Carlsbad are not only excited to be surrounded by the area's movers and shakers, but also to learn about the status of their seaside city.”
During the presentation, a gourmet three-course lunch will be served.
Chamber members who register by July 24 will receive a discounted price of $50 per ticket. After July 24, tickets are $55 for chamber members. The non-member ticket price is $60. A table of 10 with company signage is $450.
The deadline to register for the event is Aug. 7. Refund fees apply; sorry, but there will be no refunds after Aug. 7.
The luncheon is presented by Poseidon Resources. Additional sponsors include Tri-City Medical Center, Westfield, the Four Seasons Resort Aviara and CDS Printing.
