City Manager Raymond Patchett has named Glenn T. Pruim as Public Works Director for the city of Carlsbad. Pruim has served as Acting Public Works Director since November 1 of last year. He filled the position vacated when Lloyd Hubbs retired in October, after a 20-year career with the City.

Pruim had previously served as the City's Deputy Public Works Director for the past three years. In that capacity, he was responsible for managing all the engineering aspects of the Carlsbad's water, roads, sewers and other capital improvement programs. He also oversaw the traffic and transportation operation throughout the city; development of water, sewer and drainage master plans and managed the permit approval aspects related to engineering, such as land development, grading, plan check, construction and environmental aspects of private and public development.

Prior to joining the City of Carlsbad, Pruim served as an engineer for the County of San Bernardino. He rose through the ranks, beginning as a project manager in the County's Flood Control Planning Division and then serving as project manager in the Transportation Design Division. He served for four years as Chief of Flood Control Operations Division before joining the City of Carlsbad in 2002.

Preceding his public sector career, Pruim has also worked for six years as a project engineer for TRW Space and Defense division, designing ground support buildings and hardware for ballistic missile launch facilities and launch complex, and supervising ground support staff.

He holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois. Pruim is both a registered California Mechanical and a Civil Engineer. He lives in San Marcos with his wife and two sons.
