For 37 years, The Elizabeth Hospice has touched the lives of more than 90,000 individuals living with illness, grief and loss. As the County's leading hospice and palliative care provider, serving communities within San Diego and Inland Empire, the organization offers comprehensive services for all ages, as well as a myriad of counseling programs and services to the community-at-large through its Center for Compassionate Care.

What is Hospice Care?
Considered to be the model for quality, health care at the end of life, hospice care involves a team-oriented approach to expert medical care, pain and symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support, tailored to an individual's health care needs and wishes. Support and guidance is also provided to a patient's family members.

When should I ask about Hospice?
The medical experts at The Elizabeth Hospice suggest asking your physician or a trusted healthcare provider about hospice and palliative care, if you or someone you know, adult or child – is living with a serious illness and experiencing:

• Changing goals of care
• Change in health prognosis
• Decline in medical condition
• The need for more information
about health care options
• The decision that comfort care and
quality of life matter most

Who Pays for Hospice Care?
Most insurance providers, including Medicare and Medi-Cal, offer a hospice benefit that covers the standard costs of hospice care. And thanks to the generosity of our community, The Elizabeth Hospice is proud to provide comprehensive services to those in need, regardless of their ability to pay, through The Elizabeth Hospice Care Fund that is generated by donations.

Finding the "Best" Care for You
The Elizabeth Hospice can assist in determining the best care for you and your loved ones. In addition to hospice care, the organization's Center for Compassionate Care provides a myriad of programs including counseling services and support groups to the community-at-large, to help individuals of all ages living with illness, grief and loss. And for those living with a chronic or serious illness, the Palliative Care Program provides specialized medical care that focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness – whatever the diagnosis. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.

"Our goal is the help individuals and their loved ones make the most of each moment of life," said Jan Jones, President and CEO of The Elizabeth Hospice. "Since 1978, we have been honored to be a trusted healthcare resource in our community and our commitment to providing exceptional programs and services for those impacted by illness, grief and loss is stronger than ever."
