North County's best resource for driving business connections will roll into town Sept. 17 with the return of the Carlsbad Business Expo.
Hosted by the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the premier event will take place from noon to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at the Westfield shopping center, located at 2525 El Camino Real, Carlsbad. The chamber's annual summer Sundowner will be held in conjunction with the expo from 5 to 7 p.m.
The expo is presented by Westfield. Each year, the event includes more than 100 exhibitors from a wide variety of industries and draws more than 1,000 attendees from throughout San Diego County.
“Exhibitors can make connections while meeting face-to-face with hundreds of business prospects at the event,” said Becky Smith, general manager of Westfield and chair of the chamber's Business Expo Committee. “This provides an opportunity to make the right connections for your business.”
For the second year in a row, the expo will feature specialty pavilions that highlight the latest trends in specific industries. These specialty pavilions will feature local experts:
• Health & Wellness, learn the latest trends to stay healthy. This pavilion is brought to you by Tri-City Medical Center.
• Technology, gain the knowledge and equipment to improve your business. The Microsoft Across America truck, presented by Fusion Factor, will be available at the pavilion for attendees to see, touch and learn about Microsoft's programs for businesses.
• Travel & Tourism, discover desired destinations and accommodations for local or long distance travel. Grand Pacific Resorts is the sponsor of this new pavilion.
E-World Recyclers will be on-site collecting electronic waste, which includes computers, televisions, telephones, fax machines, copiers, cameras, MP3 players, stereo systems and other types of electronic devices. E-World Recyclers will donate a portion of the proceeds from the recycled e-waste to Military Outreach Ministry Camp Pendleton, a nonprofit organization that provides support to low-income military families with a rank of sergeant and below.
The chamber is offering free admission to attendees who bring e-waste to recycle. Otherwise, admission is $5 per person. Those who pre-register to attend on the chamber's Web site, www.carlsbad.org, will receive an e-mail for free admission.
Highlights of the event include a beer and wine garden, free gourmet food samples from 1 to 7 p.m., a government affairs booth and the chamber's Small Business Success Center booth, which will be offering on-site business counseling.
Interested exhibitors must register by Sept. 3. Those who register by Aug. 20 will receive a $100 discount on their booth space.
Exhibitors are invited to attend a hands-on workshop at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 27 at the chamber to learn techniques to make the expo a success.
During the workshop, Rhonda Sher, who is known as the expert on the topic of business networking and author of “The Two Minute Networker,” will talk about how to attract visitors to your booth, how to get qualifying information about those who visit your booth and a simple system for follow-up. Sher also will give tips on how to find and develop strategic relationships at the expo using “The Two Minute Networker” method.
Besides Westfield, the event sponsors include Grand Pacific Resorts, Tri-City Medical Center, the North County Times, CDS Printing, Hudson Printing and AT&T.
