Does SCORE counseling really help persons wanting to start a business, to find financing or evaluate ways to market a business and be more successful? When SCORE members are counseling clients at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, they find many times that clients need to know the truth about what they are getting into before starting the process for business loans, leasing facilities, etc.

Counselors are a good sounding board when needed, yet they will direct potential business owners into SCORE or Chamber workshops to help them learn what is really involved, what the costs are, where they can market their businesses, such as join a Chamber, what kinds of expenses they might be facing, where to find clients, etc. SCORE works with the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce in offering workshops and business information useful to anyone needing assistance in running a new or established business.

For these reasons, SCORE counselors are carefully screened and must have had a successful business career, either as an owner, manager, or responsible for running major aspects of small businesses. Once selected, they are trained, attend all SCORE workshops, and work with a SCORE Mentor to successfully complete required programs before beginning to counsel on their own.

New SCORE counselors who have recently joined the cadre of experts selected to provide SCORE business counseling at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce in northwest San Diego County on Mondays and Fridays includes:
