SDG&E was the recipient of the Commitment to Emergency Preparedness Award, presented by the Ready Carlsbad Business Alliance, to recognize the company's commitment to advance planning and preparedness.
This was the second year that the alliance presented the award, which recognizes the "accomplishments and contributions to prepare employees, protect and continue business operations and contribute to community recovery in the event of large-scale disasters."

To determine the winner, the alliance asked all of the nominees a series of questions, including what emergency preparedness programs they have implemented; how they involved their employees in their preparedness process; and how their program benefits the community.
SDG&E has a comprehensive community fire safety program, and relationships that serve customers with access or functional needs as well as a proactive public education program which direct mails nearly 35,000 preparedness brochures in multiple languages. It has preparedness partnerships with 53 fire agencies, firesafe councils, Community Emergency Response Teams and other community organizations. It provides charitable grants to support numerous regional preparedness organizations and defensible space programs and well as an award-winning vegetation management program maintaining more than 400,000 trees.
It also has a dedicated emergency operations center, three mobile command centers and agreements to provide one of the largest domestic aerial firefighting resources to support fire suppression efforts this season.
