When the San Diego County Fair returns next month, it will spread Music Mania to the more than 1.2 million people who are expected to attend.
The fair season, which is scheduled to run June 12 through July 5, will have two dark days: June 15 and 22. The fair will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
From marching bands to garage bands, all the way to local celebrities, musicians of all genres and ages will be highlighted by this year's Music Mania theme. Contests, such as Hip-Hop Dance Battle, and the San Diego International Beer Festival will return bigger and better than ever, and themed stages and areas will call to life important moments in music history.
The Summer Concert Series will bring music of all types to the fair. The lineup includes Melissa Etheridge, the B-52's, Switchfoot, Smokey Robinson, Kelly Clarkson and many other soloists and bands.
The fair is offering more than $60,000 in prizes for this year's Musicpalooza competition. Nearly 250 entries were received by aspiring artists nationwide looking for their big break.
The competition is sure to bring the best of the best as the participants compete in three different rounds of judging. The winners from each category will open July 3 for Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
Admission to the fair is $13 for adults, free for kids 5 and younger and $7 for those who are ages 6?12 or 62 and older.
