The Carlsbad Chamber received a visit by a delegation from their sister city, Karlovy Vary of the Czech Republic, on the last Wednesday in September. The Karlovy Vary Lord Mayor himself, Zdenek Roubinek, was among the twelve Czech dignitaries that came to tour the States.
After meeting the Chamber staff, taking a few pictures and being treated to lunch, the Czech troupe learned facts and figures about the city of Carlsbad and the city's Chamber from President and CEO, Ted Owen. Covering everything from chamber events to procedures and funding policies, Owen spoke to the group with the aid of an interpreter accompanying the group. In addition, short DVDs were shown that covered topics relating to the American government and various Carlsbad organizations.

A question and answer segment wrapped up the afternoon for the guests. "It has been our pleasure to visit this fine city," said Roubinek, who speaks both English and Czech. "You have a very nice establishment," he concluded, referring to the Carlsbad Chamber.

The purpose of the sister city organization is to foster understanding, goodwill and cultural appreciation between nations. Carlsbad is the namesake of Karlovy Vary. The Czech Republic town, once known as Karlsbad, has been a sister city since 1991.
