Staples, Inc., (Nasdaq: SPLS) the world's largest office products company, celebrated the opening of its Carlsbad store located at 2712 Loker Avenue West in Carlsbad with a 'Neighbors at Noon' community event featuring free prizes and refreshments. Guests included Mayor Claude A. "Bud" Lewis.

The celebration continued with a unique 'ribbon shredding' ceremony to mark the store opening. Carlsbad residents were invited to experience how Staples will make life easy for the Carlsbad community.

"We are excited to join the Carlsbad community," said Staples General Manger, Wayne Anderson. "By supporting local organizations such as the Carlsbad City Library, we are able to give back to the community that has welcomed us."

During the event Lewis joined Anderson in presenting the Friends of the Carlsbad Library with a $1,500 donation.

"We are delighted that Staples is entering the Carlsbad community not only as a valuable economic resource, but as a community partner that will support local community efforts," said Arthur Wood, president of Friends of the Carlsbad City Library, an organization formed in June 1957 to enhance relations between the Library and the community. "The Carlsbad City Library welcomes Staples to the area and greatly appreciates their donation that will help fund the library's English and Spanish literacy programs."

Although the celebration occurred June 15, the Carlsbad store will celebrate its official grand opening on August 5. Regular store hours will be Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Carlsbad Staples store employs approximately 30 full- and part-time associates.
