The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Success Center celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon cutting on April 19.

The Small Business Success Center will be a community 'Mentoring Mecca.' It is currently the first complete counseling and training center in the San Diego region housed within a Chamber of Commerce. Entrepreneurs and small business professionals seeking guidance now have a site where they will be able to receive counseling, have immediate access to resources and get connected to networking opportunities in the North County community all in one location.

"We found there was a need to centralize the many excellent small business services within the community, so we partnered with the North County Chambers of Commerce, SCORE, the SBA, the County, the City and local banks to offer a one-stop support system for entrepreneurs", says Ted Owen, Carlsbad Chamber President & CEO.

Two full days of counseling will be offered each week in the center with SCORE (Service Corp. of Retired Executives) representatives. Currently those days are Monday and Friday. Pre-screening of interested business professionals ensures they are matched with counselors with related backgrounds.

The second component of the counseling includes tracking select businesses for up to one year. Their growth will be monitored to help them reach each step of development and then they will be invited to come back and mentor other entrepreneurs.

In addition, regular workshops will be offered on small business financing and marketing; while mentoring, training, web links and state-of-the-art technology provide the opportunity for research and business development.

The guest list for the ribbon cutting included members of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Board of Directors; County Supervisor, Bill Horn; Mayor Pro Tem, Matt Hall; Dr. Ruben Garcia of the SBA; Dennis Stytz, Sr. Vice President of Loans for Southwest Community Bank; Tom Nickols, SCORE President; City Manager & Board Member Ray Patchett and other community partners.

Special thanks to the "angels" who helped make the Center possible. Supervisor Bill Horn, who contributed community grant funds to help with construction and the purchase of computers and Dennis Stytz, Southwest Community Bank, who agreed to sponsor the Center; provided funds to help purchase resource materials, develop training programs and provide staffing for the Center.
