Do you want to show your support for our troops? Join the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Armed Services Committee and find out how you and your business can get involved. The Armed Service Committee is looking for a few good men and women that have an appreciation for our military.
The Armed Services Committee has many projects that show support for our military. By strengthening local military and local business relations the committee provides a great resource to the community.
One of these projects is the Camp Pendleton School of Infantry Patriotic Car Rally. The School of Infantry (SOI) at Camp Pendleton trains Marines that have recently completed boot camp in advanced infantry skills. Their training is so intense they cannot leave the base and work six days a week. In an effort to say, "Thank you," the committee provides a fun and relaxing break for these students through the rally. The Marines at SOI get to view more than 50 classic cars, eat great chow and have the chance to win prizes such as iPods, utility knifes, backpacks filled with goodies and other prizes. The committee takes pride in this event because it is a time to give back to our Marines and show them that we appreciate all that they do to protect our nation.
The committee is also working on a member to military discount program, which will allow members of our Armed Forces to find out about the bountiful business that Carlsbad has to offer. This program will establish a list of Carlsbad businesses that currently have or want to create a discount program for active, retired or reservist members of our Armed Forces and their dependents. With all that these brave men and women do for each of us, providing a discount or a service to the members of our Armed Forces is something small that everyone can do to say thanks.
The next SOI event will be May 20, 2007 at Camp Pendleton. The committee is actively seeking volunteers to help with the event and put a smile on these Marines' faces. The Armed Services Committee meets at 7:30 to 9 a.m. the fourth Friday of every month at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. Our next meeting will be at 7:30 a.m. March 23. If you have any questions, please call Michael Babowal, director of government affairs at the Carlsbad Chamber at (760) 931-8400, ext. 108.
