Last month, The Crossings at Carlsbad marked its one-year anniversary of being open to the public.
In its first year, the municipal golf course has served thousands of people and garnered national honors while meeting the city of Carlsbad's goal of acting as a community amenity for both golfers and the public.
In the past 12 months, The Crossings has hosted 57,980 rounds of golf, exceeding its initial projection of 56,775 rounds. About 40 percent of the golfers were Carlsbad residents, while roughly 30 percent were from the surrounding San Diego County area.
In addition, The Crossings has fulfilled the overall vision set by the city for serving the community as part of a broader, long-range plan in which the golf course is tied in with other parks and open space developments, such as being a part of Carlsbad's city-wide trail system.
“With all of the major golf manufacturers located here … we view Carlsbad as the golf capital of the world,” said Carlsbad Mayor Bud Lewis. “We are proud that in its inaugural year, The Crossings at Carlsbad is not only representative of who we are as a community, both in the quality of the course and its clubhouse, but also lives up to the area's reputation for golf excellence.”
During The Crossings at Carlsbad's first year of operation, many milestones were achieved, including:
• Receiving national acclaim when GOLF Magazine named it one of the Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.
• Being featured on “The Golf Channel” during a piece regarding June's U.S. Open.
• Hosting more than 60,000 diners in its first year, its restaurant exceeded its daily a-la-carte revenue budget by more than $400,000.
• Acquiring more than $440,000 in banquet revenue. The banquet and event facilities hosted 28 weddings and 15 holiday parties.
• Hosting its first major golf outing in August of 2007, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's annual golf tournament, which is now a recurring annual event at the course.
• Establishing a loyalty program that has evolved into more than 1,100 members and includes annual events.
• Initiating community days to provide family experiences for the community, including an Easter Egg Hunt and Brunch, Valentine's Day Dinner and Fourth of July Family Fun Day Celebration.
