At a recent meeting with the California Small Business Association, the Chamber shared their insights about what small businesses are in need of in order to, not only survive but also prosper in the new year. The following list of issues was compiled for distribution to legislators. These are suggested directions for regulatory policy and legislation:
– Continued work on lowering insurance and other regulated industry costs, in both the workers' compensation and medical health arenas.

– Continued legislative vigilance to bring down the costs of frivolous suits.

– The creation of a bureau to collect and publish statistics on small business.

– A clear and operational definition of small business.

– Greater partnerships between small business and the legislation that affects it.

– More simple regulatory language resulting in less complex workplace, environmental, healthcare and energy rules.

– More responsive regulatory structures.

– Inclusion of small business owners in health, educational assistance and other plans.
