Maybe you've seen Apple's popular “I'm a Mac” advertisements.
The Windows versus Mac conversation has been an interesting one for many years now. But beyond Apple's cute “I'm A Mac” advertising is compelling information you may want to consider as you select information systems tools for your business.
In a recent survey conducted by the Yankee Group, 87 percent of 250 businesses surveyed had Macs in their offices, up from 48 percent two years ago.
A more recent survey of 700 executives and IT managers by Information Technology Intelligence Corp., found that four out of five businesses have Macs in their environments. More than two-thirds said they would allow their employees to use Macs as their corporate enterprise desktops in the next 12 months, a rate double that of an earlier survey.
Numerous studies and articles show that the cost of Apple hardware has become very competitive when compared with name brands like Dell and HP. Believe it or not, XP is easier and quicker to install on a Mac than any Dell, HP or other platform.
Cost savings are increased when you look at hardware support savings. It's very convenient and cost-effective to have one hardware platform, and Mac can run both Windows and Mac OS software at the same time.
Apple's Leopard server is very popular, even among Windows-based businesses, due to its lower cost of ownership and its seamless support for Windows, Mac and Linux desktops. Another important cost to consider is employee productivity.
Mac-based software typically takes less time to learn and allows users to generate more compelling, powerful results than similar products in MS Windows. You might want to take a look at Apple's iWork '09 productivity suite.
A significant percentage of our clients chose to move from Windows to Macintosh. Their reasons for converting included cost savings, increased productivity and employee satisfaction with Mac-based solutions.
For example, companies using Act! and Goldmine are hearing about the many advantages of a Mac-based product called Daylite, a CRM solution designed specifically for the Macintosh. Powerpoint users want the features and sizzle that iWork's Keynote can create.
If you haven't been to an Apple store yet, you should visit one soon. Each week, 3.4 million people are visiting Apple stores. They are discovering why there is an excitement among Mac users and businesses that is dwindling among MS Windows users.
With today's economic situation, you can't afford to ignore the compelling advantages the Macintosh platform offers.
