Gone are the days when vacationing simply meant a trip to Hawaii or spending long hours on a tour bus being shuffled from movie star homes to Hollywood and Vine with a camera and a pack of pensioners.
In the past decade, new options for vacationing have proliferated and many destinations have begun to find creative ways to showcase and benefit their communities. In other words, today's tourists are looking for THE experience.
Many such experiences can be found in our own community, some noisy, some quiet, some for singles or couples, some for families. The point is to address our potential customers with a message. Not just “come visit Carlsbad,” but “come visit Carlsbad and enjoy the experience wrapped around it.”
The tourism industry worldwide is continually coming up with new ideas for tourism experiences. Some, including sports, cultural, culinary, eco and agricultural tourism, have become well-established in recent years.
Visit Carlsbad is keenly aware of our worthy competitors. We will take on our tourism competition as we launch a new Web site during the first quarter of 2010.
The new Web site will be more consumer friendly with a fresh, new face and easy navigation. One highly anticipated function of the new site will be a robust system of lead generation for our hoteliers, aptly named EmpowerMINT.
Created by Destination Marketing Association International, it is a virtual, national sales office for the destination marketing industry. This advance technology initiative also will raise awareness with meeting professionals, position destination marketing organizations as the experts of the destination and perhaps, most importantly, drive planners directly to the destination.
In the meantime, Visit Carlsbad has introduced a temporary bridge site that will be in place until the premier of the new site. The bridge site is intended to maintain a continuity of the Visit Carlsbad brand, which was launched in March.
Visit Carlsbad's staff also is looking forward to a new, more visible sign installed at our driveway and Carlsbad Village Drive. Hopefully, this will help to eliminate confusion and make it easier to find the Visitor Center.
Visitors to the center will be able to purchase some fun items with our new logo: Visit Carlsbad, Where to go for fun, and receive assistance from our friendly hospitality ambassadors.
We are looking forward to the New Year with much enthusiasm and wish success for all of Carlsbad's businesses.
Looking for fun?
