Most locals breathe a sigh of relief when the busy tourism season ends, but for Visit Carlsbad this is the time to plan for next year's high season.
We are looking for new markets and opportunities to sell our city and amenities to vacationers who, despite the world's turmoil, will most certainly need to take a break to refresh body and spirit. In this fast-paced, pressure-packed, 24/7 world, vacation getaways are now more important than ever.
As the local hospitality and tourism sector looks to the upcoming holiday season, it's interesting to look at a recent survey from the Travel Industry Association. Those responding to the survey credited four reasons as significant for hitting the road to visit family or friends over the holidays. The reasons are creating memories, maintaining tradition, improving a person's sense of overall wellbeing, reconnecting and building relationships.
As the marketing arm of Visit Carlsbad strives to bring visitors into the city, the Visitor Information Center plans how to assist those vacationers once they arrive. It takes a coordinated effort to ensure our message gets to potential visitors.
Each day, the center's hospitality ambassadors man the front desks with smiles, terrific attitudes and great answers to a few unusual questions. They always go the extra mile to fulfill a visitor's request.
The center is staffed by a team of volunteers eager to share with visitors where they can find a delicious dinner, great shopping, fabulous hotels and the best sunset.
The historic train depot continues to attract visitors wanting information on what Carlsbad has to offer and travelers searching for that perfect holiday experience. Since June 1, the center's staff has been busy providing valuable information to 3,000 visitors and has logged 530 hours of volunteer service.
Carlsbad is blessed with a wonderful community of diverse volunteers who make it a better place to live. Every day, scores of people volunteer their time, services and special skills, invigorating our city with energy and a spirit of selflessness that makes our community thrive.
The center is searching for new volunteers to become a part of our hospitality ambassador group. Volunteers will gain personal enrichment by learning about Carlsbad while enjoying informal training on local and regional resources.
They also enjoy the satisfaction of serving and educating a variety of visitors while representing Carlsbad tourism. Volunteers should be able to provide friendly, courteous and efficient visitor services, communicate orally with a variety of people and represent the hospitality industry in a professional manner.
The Visitor Services program is available year-round, seven days a week. Volunteers are expected to offer their services for four hours one day each week for at least six months.
If you are interested in volunteering, contact Lee Lees at (760) 434-6093 or [email protected].
November is a time for giving thanks. Visit Carlsbad is grateful for our volunteers who selflessly keep the center staffed, giving daily assistance to the folks who are visiting our fine city.
