The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce's Village Enhancement Committee was established several years ago with the goal of developing a plan for the Village to enhance growth and vitality.
Hap L'Heureux serves as the chairman of the committee and John Simons serves as co-chair. The committee meets from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of the month at the Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort, 3075 Carlsbad Blvd.
The committee works diligently to keep a focus on revitalizing the Village and to support the chamber's members in that area. Some of the committee's milestones include:
? Development of a vision plan for the redevelopment area that includes the retention of a consultant to bring the community together for consensus on revitalization efforts. The result was an extensive report called the Calthorpe Study, which has been used as a guideline for subsequent studies.
? Holding a design competition, which encouraged local architects to show a redesign of a study area in the Village. Excellent designs were selected and architects were given awards.
? Some members served on the recent working group for the development of the new Carlsbad Village Improvement Partnership, or Carlsbad VIP. The group recently selected the organization's first board of directors. The board will soon hire an executive director to lead the new organization.
