CBAD Awards and going green

One of the areas our community is focused on today is sustainability and responsibility.  During the month of April, we celebrate Earth Day and honor the green businesses making an impact today.  The chamber works to support green industries leaders through its daily efforts as well as annual recognition.  The 2022 CBAD Awards are around the corner when the chamber awards businesses, educators, nonprofits and those community members who elevate those around them.

Green business represents more than just agriculture and companies who care about the trees.  Sustainable businesses have a minimal negative impact or a potentially positive effect on the global or local environment, community, society, or economy.  How can you accomplish something like this?  Business can start by reviewing basics such as use of water, energy, and raw materials.  It includes the use of renewables, reduction of the carbon footprint we create. Start with something as simple like using Eco-friendly cleaning products around the office and making sure lights and HVAC are off during non-occupancy times.

 
Why do businesses focus on these areas?  Aside from the obvious answer of taking care of the place we live for future generations there is a business advantage. Green businesses experience an enhanced brand image.  They will often experience increases in productivity, reduction of costs, and unique growth opportunities.  It can have a tremendous team building effect as well, resulting in improved recruitment, retention of high-quality employees and a healthier work environment.

The Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to leading these areas.  We host monthly member meetings with our Green Business Committee. We offer regular workshops on green business topics. The chamber also organizes vendor events to act as a catalyst of business development in this area, such as our Green Business Expo (April 20 at the Flower Fields).   We recognize those in the community with our 2022 CBAD Awards.  If you haven’t registered yet, please contact the chamber to learn more about the event May 20, 2022 at the Westin Carlsbad.  I hope to see you there.
