Celebrating Carlsbad’s educators

There’s something remarkable about the quiet power of great educators. They don’t often seek the spotlight, yet their influence radiates through our community in ways we feel every day. Great educators inspire students, support stronger families, and quietly contribute to a brighter future for Carlsbad.
This year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor four exceptional individuals who represent the very best of our education system. These awards aren’t just about recognizing skill in the classroom or leadership in the school; they’re about celebrating heart, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to helping young people thrive.
At Capri Elementary, Brian Charles has created a joyful, inclusive learning environment where curiosity is contagious. His energy, empathy, and creativity have left a lasting impression on countless students and families. Brian reminds us that the early years are a critical time for building confidence and character, and that foundational work often begins with a single caring adult who believes in a child’s potential.
At Aviara Oaks Middle School, Emily Foster is guiding students through one of the most pivotal and sometimes challenging times in their lives. Her ability to connect, encourage, and stretch her students academically and personally is what makes her stand out. She helps young people discover their voice and understand their value, all while making learning exciting and meaningful.
At Carlsbad High School, Peter Manzi is more than a teacher; he’s a mentor, a motivator, and a trusted guide. His students describe him as someone who challenges them to think deeply and lead with integrity. He has a way of making each student feel seen, and in doing so, he’s helping to build not just scholars but future leaders.
And it’s impossible not to recognize the leadership of Julie Redfield, also at Carlsbad High School, who is this year’s Administrator of the Year. Julie’s vision and commitment to creating a supportive and forward-thinking school culture have made an impact not just on students but on teachers and staff as well. Her steady leadership and tireless advocacy reflect what’s best about our Carlsbad schools.
These four individuals are doing far more than their job descriptions require. They’re building the foundation of our community’s future, and we are lucky to have them. Today, we say thank you.
