Challenging the food insecurity status quo

As the Chair of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, I am honored to celebrate the incredible achievements of +Box, our well-deserving recipient of the Nonprofit of the Year award. This recognition is not only a testament to the hard work and dedication of the +Box team but also a reflection of the philanthropic spirit that thrives within our Carlsbad community.

+Box has made a profound impact on our community by addressing food insecurity, a pressing issue that affects far too many families. Through innovative solutions and a tireless commitment to their mission, +Box has provided essential resources to those in need, ensuring that no family goes hungry. Their work has brought hope, relief, and sustenance to countless households, demonstrating the power of community-driven action.

What sets +Box apart is their innovative approach to solving a complex problem. Wesley Burt, Founder and Executive Director mentioned, “+Box is different from other food programs in the way that we focus on health and wellness versus acute hunger relief. What we’re trying to do is provide kids with the types of foods that are going to help them be more successful in school and in life as opposed to just trying to make sure they have calories. “

By leveraging technology, community partnerships, and volunteer efforts, +Box has developed a sustainable model that not only meets the immediate needs of our community but also lays the groundwork for long-term solutions. “We focus primarily on fresh food and for us that means an emphasis on locally sourced fresh fruits and vegetables. We’re providing those to families in North County who don’t have access to those types of foods and those are the types of foods that are going to drive better health outcomes,  better academic outcomes and give kids the fuel that they need to be more successful in school and in life, “ Wesley shared. Their ability to adapt and respond to the ever-changing needs of the community has been inspiring, and their impact is felt by everyone who calls Carlsbad home.
