An array of glamorous and colorful outfits, eye-catching heels and look-at-me hats was the scene at the second annual Glamour, Glitz, Hats and Heels held on Friday, May 20 at the Carlsbad Sheraton.
“This signature event is designed to honor the strength and leadership of women,” said Toni Padron, executive vice president and COO at the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce. “It’s also an opportunity for women business leaders in Carlsbad and the North county region to network and gather tips from their peers.”
Chamber President Ted Owen, Chamber Executive Vice President and COO Toni Padron, and Senator Patricia Bates opened the event with highlights on the contributions, issues and successes of women in business.
Padron introduced the event’s keynote speaker, Scripps Health Executive Director of External Affairs Susan Taylor, who gave an inspirational talk on navigating career changes. Taylor joined Scripps in 2011 after more than 15 years as an award-winning San Diego news anchor for NBC. Her talk touched on the intricacies of being a successful journalist and the sacrifices that come with the job.
“It was an empowering afternoon spent with the wonderful ladies of the Carlsbad Chamber,” said Megan Schenck, owner of Three Lagoons Realty. “Listening to Susan Taylor’s personal story and struggles made me laugh, reflect, and brought tears to my eyes (multiple times). I am so grateful to be a part of such a strong community that offers these type of opportunities to network, have fun and grow.”
A long-time patient at Scripps, Taylor has a personal connection to the healthcare institution, where her father successfully underwent open heart surgery in 2008. She says she’s blessed to now work for an organization that allows her to spend more time with her loved ones.
The event wrapped up with an electrifying fashion show with chamber members as models displaying colorful outfits fit for an afternoon around town and versatile pieces for the office. The show was curated by Lisa O’Hearn with cabi clothing, and Carol Fehr with Mary Kay cosmetics provided makeup for all the wonderful models.
Event sponsors included The Loftin Firm, P.C., Savvy Women Wealth Management, and WWM Financial. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Pregnancy Resource Center in Vista.
