Joe Gabaldon named 2026 Board Chair

What if you were told your dream was about to come true? That is exactly how I feel as I step into the role of incoming Chair of the Board for the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce.

As a 30-year resident of North County and a proud 20-year resident of Carlsbad, I have long admired the Chamber’s role as a catalyst for business success and community vitality. I hoped one day to contribute in a meaningful way, and that aspiration became a reality in 2012 when I joined the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC). For a public affairs executive like me, the GAC provided a valuable opportunity to collaborate with fellow Chamber members, engage with elected officials and government staff, and participate in thoughtful dialogue on the policies shaping our local business environment.

Professionally, I have spent the past nine years in public affairs at SDG&E, and more than 35 years working in government and community relations throughout San Diego County, including leadership roles with Cox Communications and Time Warner Cable. I have also had the privilege of serving as Chairman of the Board for both the San Diego North Economic Development Council and the Vista Chamber of Commerce. Throughout my career, I have worked on strategic initiatives involving high-profile regulatory issues, always guided by the belief that high-quality infrastructure and sound public policy are essential to economic growth and quality of life.

As Chair, my priorities for the Chamber are clear: to strengthen member engagement, advance strategic partnerships that expand our community impact, and ensure the Chamber’s long-term stability and growth. These goals reflect my commitment to supporting our diverse business community while positioning the Chamber for continued success.

I am excited about the year ahead and deeply confident in the strength of our leadership. We have a deep bench, with a Board of Directors that includes experienced committee leaders alongside accomplished business and nonprofit professionals. Under the leadership of CEO Bret Schanzenbach and the outstanding Chamber team, who are among the very best in the industry, I know we are well positioned to deliver meaningful value to our members and our community.

It is truly an honor to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors. I am grateful for the trust placed in me, energized by the opportunities ahead, and, as I like to say, just living the dream.
