La Costa Canyon High School opportunities
As the only high school in Carlsbad within the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD), La Costa Canyon High School (LCC) is known for providing students with opportunities to explore their interests, discover their strengths, and pursue their goals.
From rigorous academics and championship athletics to award-winning arts programs and student leadership opportunities, LCC is a school where students can find a pathway to success.
A Place to Connect and Belong
At LCC, students have a wide range of opportunities to get involved, build relationships, and discover new interests. With more than 50 student-led clubs and organizations, leadership opportunities through the Associated Student Body (ASB), robotics, and an award-winning speech and debate team, students can connect with peers who share their interests while developing skills that extend beyond the classroom.
Students can also participate in the National Honor Society, which recognizes academic achievement while encouraging service and leadership. Through MavNation, LCC’s student-led broadcast program, students help share campus news, celebrate student accomplishments, and strengthen connections across campus. These opportunities help students develop confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging that supports both their personal and academic growth.
A Broad Range of Academic Opportunities
LCC offers a diverse range of academic programs designed to meet the needs and goals of all learners. Students can pursue rigorous coursework through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, while programs like AVID, Career Technical Education (CTE) provide additional pathways exploration, career readiness, and growth. A broad selection of world language, elective, and specialty courses allows students to customize their educational experience and discover new interests along the way.
Excellence in Athletics
and the Arts
Opportunities at LCC extend well beyond academics. More than half of the student body participates in athletics, with 33 varsity-level sports available throughout the school year. Mavericks regularly compete at league, CIF, and state levels, reflecting a strong tradition of teamwork, sportsmanship, and school pride.
Students also thrive in the visual and performing arts. Opportunities include theater, visual arts, instrumental music, and dance, providing students with creative outlets to develop their talents. The Maverick Brigade, the only marching band in SDUHSD, showcases school spirit at campus and community events throughout the year.
