Fun! Glamorous! Intimate! These are all words that describe a unique cultural experience not to be missed at the La Costa Film Festival. The festival kicks off Thursday, Oct. 13 and wraps up Sunday, Oct. 16. LCFF draws upon the mystique and storied Hollywood connections of the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, who has served as the Festival’s host from the beginning. Co-founders Michael and Ruby Callihan soon discovered that their vision for creating this legacy event would inspire equally passionate volunteers who would devote countless hours towards its success. LCFF16 The festival is an irresistible combination of quality films and exciting special events embraced in a setting that epitomizes a world-class destination. Last year, over 4,000 fans were offered forty-eight films, which included five world premieres, with eighteen providing filmmaker Q&A’s, plus three FREE panels with leading film industry experts, and nightly red carpet galas. Three amazing venues are available for screening, starting with under the stars at Center Court on the grounds of the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa, followed by the ultimate in pampering from Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas, and the completely remodeled beautiful Ruby G. Schulman Theater at the Dove Library in Carlsbad. The Festival also delivers an ideal platform to showcase the best of our area, which begins with the Opening Night ‘Sip & Savor Gala – featuring fabulous cuisine from the best area restaurants, award winning local craft beers, exquisite boutique wines, and all complemented by fantastic live musical entertainment. Continue your pleasure with the Friday Night Gala, or the La Costa Stars Awards Saturday Night Gala. Film-lovers will enjoy a broad and impressive slate of films each year, ranging from documentaries, features and shorts. One particular focus is the Sports Film competition with our celebrity panel of judges selecting the best narrative, documentary and short film for recognition. The popular Audience Awards makes you the judge with live balloting submitted for films in all categories. We offer two special short film competitions for student filmmakers, one for high schools, and one for colleges with a $500 prize for the winner as determined by audience vote. The ‘Reel Pitch’ competition allows you to witness the discovery of raw talent displayed in a Shark Tank inspired format live at the Festival.
