The underrated company Holiday Party

Consider what you’re really asking an employee to do when you invite them to a company holiday party at 5 p.m.

For some, it’s simple: get dressed, show up and enjoy the evening.

For others, it means arranging childcare, coordinating a second shift of family responsibilities, finding a sitter, figuring out transportation and potentially spending extra money just to be able to attend.

And that’s before the party even starts.

So perhaps it’s time your holiday party planning team reconsiders the assumption that the best way to celebrate employees is to ask them to give up another evening.

Enter the daytime holiday party.

A lunch, or brunch, or early afternoon celebration can turn the holiday party from another personal scheduling puzzle into something that fits naturally into the workday.

It can be as simple as reserving a restaurant for lunch or as creative as building an experience around an activity, entertainment or team celebration. And for companies with lots of employees who still have young children, there are even opportunities to rethink the childcare equation altogether.
